In the novel 1984 I beleive that it is pretty close to what reality is. It's a very sad and cruel story about Oceania, a fictional environment. Oceania is a place governed by a certain Party that created 4 different ministries. They are the Ministry of Truth, Ministry of Love ,Ministry of Peace, and the Ministry of Plenty. The ministry of Truth controls all past and future documents, entertainment, and education. The ministry of Love deals with miniluv identifying ,arresting, and converting dissidents. The ministry of Peace controls minimax reports OCeania's perpetual war. The ministry of Plenty controls foods and goods.
Winston ,the main character finds himself going against The Party. He remembers his memories, has an affair, and tries what he can to go against the Party. These are things you are not suppose to do because the Party doesn't want you to think for yourself because if you do then you will start to realize whats going on and go against it like winston did. Unfortunately, Winstons failed terribly at going against Big Brother and the Party.
I thought that this book was sad especially since there wasn't an happy ending. One thing that I got from the book was the different foreshadows in every chapter. I think the foreshadow that showed you that Winston wouldn't have a happy ending was when he met O'Brien and he "turned off" the monitor. I knew that those things never really "turn off." After that meeting Winston and his lover Julia were captured. There are so many things that remind me of today with technology. Things like recording cameras that watch everything at all the time. Also people can track you with cell phones. Another thing was about the Newspeak and being able to edit and erase historic documents. This is seen the most in Wikipedia because you can edit and erase whatever you want.Overall this is a good book to read and I refer it to anyone who is interested in technology.

Erik Hanberg
I really thought that this speaker was really good. He talked about something that could be useful for all of us. Let's face it in these days it's very difficult to find any job. We are going to have to look outside the box and do something we've never done before. I know that I was constantly taking notes on how I can create my own business online. I am a full-time college student who is not able to a work full-time job because of school so this business online would really come in handy.
I've always been a writer ,but have never been confident enough to get anything published. From talking to Erik it gave me confidence to try to get my works published. Who knows maybe I could get lucky and get published. This whole presentation really made me start thinking about different ways I can make money and be stable. I'm excited to try out one of these methods.

Scavenger hunt
The scavenger hunt was easy for the most part. My team decided to split the pages up into three different parts. This seemed to really work for us especially when it came to time. We managed to get lots of things done in this short amount of time. It seemed like the different questions were being answered promtly until my team came together on #12. We have all been looking for the ad based on outside of washington about tourists locations for about 10 mins. We continue to search everywhere because we are so very close to being done with the whole hunt. Something spectacular happened in the last 5 minutes....WE FOUND THE AD:)

Convergence???
So I did it.I looked up the term convergence. However there are a lot of different meanings for this word. The first meaning is in math when a matter is approaching a limit such as a line, point, or value. The second meaning was a meeting place. The place of converging. Another example of convergence in the financial dictionary is for two different prices from the past and the present to come together to be the same price. It seems like this convergence is basically for different things to come together within technology.
I guess I ended up a little confused about convergence by looking at all the different definitions. So I did the unthinkable. I went to wikipedia.com!!! Convergence showed up in the telecommunications area. They talked about how convergence goes back to the At&t in 1928. They also speak about how convergence is about crossing multiple industries. This is when I started understanding how convergence related to our class. Maybe I should start going to wikipedia first?

Physical vs. Digital
When it comes to digital and physical documents it seems that things that were once only available as physical document then as are now available as digital. I prefer doing almost anything that I can do online rather than actually having to go and get the documents. The fact that you don't have to send in shopping orders is the best. I love to shop online and only online. It seems to make things easier for me. Other things like titles to cars are something that I would go and actually pick up from the DMV. Some people like that things like this are available now on the computer. When personal documents are involved I think it's a lot saver to get it in the physical form. When it is a documents that aren't too personal I would get it over the web.

The search for B.D.T
I have done searches on myself many times. I never am surprised at what comes up. I'm happy that there aren't any crazy pictures or anything like that when my name is looked up. I know if I was a manager I would do a vanity search on every person who applied to see their character outside of the work area. I think that these searches are good or you to do every once and a while to see what you have out there on the internet.
The first article that came up was a interview I had with a representative of World Vision about distressed teens in the U.S. The second thing that came up was a Poetry Out Loud Contest I was in a couple of years ago. There were many of my friends myspace pages that just had my name on them that came up with the search. Another thing that came up were my different scholarships I received at Pierce College. There were also old post from when I was lobbying for the Sexual health Act. It showed things like me being one out of the 3 meeting with a council member. The one thing that I did think was interesting was finding an old page I had on Black Planet which I have tried to delete a million times. Besides that my search wasn't too exciting.

Mark Briggs
I thought that our conversation with Mark Briggs was good. He talked about a lot of things that would be helpful for our future with newspaper. I think that his book journalism 2.0 would be a good read now that I have heard some of his views. I love how he's so optimistic about the Newspaper companies. He does say that the newspaper companies are simply changing ,but they are not dead.
Serra Media sounds like a really exciting company to be a part of. I can see that in a couple of years maybe even months lots of people are going to build their websites using his different layouts. I think the most interesting layout for me was the Town Luxe because I like to go shopping and if this will help me find places then that would make things easier for me. I like how he created his own website to work out for him. That just shows that if journalism doesn't work out for you then you could make your own website and make the journalism thing work for you!

My First Page
Well to really be honest I created my first page years ago. I had this technology class in highschool and we learned how to make our own websites. Our teacher taught us everything on creating the page then gave us all semester to get it right. My page never turned out the way I wanted it to . I wanted everything to be yellow and purple ,but when I saw the actual page the colors didn't work out too well.I spent weeks and weeks trying to get it right until I gave up.
Two days ago I tried to create a page again using the assignment sheet and for some reason it didn't work. I swear I did everything the sheet told me to do,but somewhere I fell short. The text wasn't looking the way I wanted it to look. There were no breaks in my page at all. After a couple of minutes I got fed up and asked my boyfriend to help me with the page. I should've asked him sooner because he turned out to be an expert. He taught me how to do things like crossout lettering and different texts colors.I asked him how he learned about the text tricks and he told me MYSPACE! I guess myspace does a good job of teaching people on how to create pages?

The Newspaper....has changed
The newspaper business is a hard place to be these days. With the internet news sources it's a surprise to see that they are still in business. Anyone can get the breaking news from their personal computer. Which takes away those monthly fees of having the paper man get out of his bed to deliver. The fact that newspaper online is FREE is what attracts everybody. It's easier to just look at the news online when waking up or before gong to bed. Traditional newspapers take up space in houses. You find more people that have their laptops in the morning at coffee shops more than newspapers now a days.
It seems that the newspaper is slowly ,but surely disappearing. If more people continue to read their daily news online then there won't be a reason to waste the paper. They would turn the newspaper into another going green project to save paper around the world. The Newspaper has indeed changed because people now go online to read it .

Email Vs Postal Mail
I think that we can all agree that the absolute easiest way to send mail is through email. The fact that it is quicker, accurate, and free makes email the top choice. When you send out an email it doesn't need a overpriced stamp or box to send just the click of a mouse. In order for anyone to send anything to you through email your email address has to be accurate. This makes it so that the person emailing you has to know your email address exactly or else their message won't get to you.Email is completely FREE! It's also very convenient to use email. You don't have to run around the city looking for the nearest post office ,but you can use your home computer. Email is even available on cell phones so that makes it even easier. The only downfalls to using email are viruses and spam. Some viruses that are through the email system can shut down a whole system so people using email should never open emails from unknown sources. Spam is very annoying in email in boxes and there is unfortunately no way to completely get rid of it.t seems that even with these minor issues email is the greatest thing since french toast.
U.S. postal mail is what I call the "old fashion" way to get your letter across the world. There are still good things about the system ,but there seems to be more bad things . It allows personalized letters to be sent out to loved ones. Besides that postal mail is time consuming, slow, and not accurate. Think about the last time you had to go to a post office.I'm pretty sure there were lines of people everywhere waiting to reach the front desk. With email there are no lines. Normal shipping times are usually 5-7 business days with U.S. mail.Emails are sent in seconds and they even make it to people on weekends and holidays. There are many times where I have received the wrong letter with the wrong name ,but because the post man saw that the item had the same address they still delivered it . Postal mail seems to be a waste of time even on holidays when your expecting letters from your family members because rarely do you receive those letters on time and that's because of the big holiday mail pot. This is the same pot that ate all of your dear santa letters and has you still wondering why you never get what you wanted for Christmas. Postal mail isn't the easiest way to get things delivered ,but we continue to use it because we haven't found a way to send college texts books electronically. People want the books physically.
Email or Postal mail? It seems that email is the best choice ,but there are people who still love the "old fashion" postal mail system. I'm sure sending the letter through postal mail gives people a sense of security that the letter will make it.However, alot of the times the letter doesn't make it at all. If they would've used email the letter they sent out would show up in their outbox and they would know for sure that their letter was sent and received.Email and Postal mail do have similarities like a mail box, addresses, chain letters, photos, and post offices. However, those similarities don't do the postal mail justice. I grew up in the times of email so that's what I will continue to use. Looks like you'll just have to make your choice based on the facts.
